How to Volunteer in the Local Community!

Volunteering is an excellent way to make a difference in your community. Whether you're looking to help out for a few hours at the weekend or make a major contribution, there are a number of ways to get involved. Here are a few examples of the types of volunteering available in the community.

Green volunteering

Green volunteers work with organisations with a view to making a positive environmental difference in the community. Helping out at a local level is vital to the preservation of the environment, and every little contribution helps. Volunteering opportunities can include getting involved with local wildlife initiatives, supporting environmental education projects and taking a more active role in recycling.

Animal volunteering.

If you want to dovolunteer with animals, it's important to first consider the level of commitment you're willing to provide. It can be tough work, and you might also need some training before you start. If you're up for the challenge, however, there are a variety of ways to help out! Ideas include dog walking, working at a community farm or zoo, monitoring local wildlife or looking after injured or stray animals.

Hospital volunteering.

You don't need any special skills or training to volunteer in a hospital and there are plenty of roles open to those willing to help. Hospital volunteers can take on a number of tasks including working closely with the staff, helping with administrative tasks or spending time with patients. Olympic volunteering.

There are still opportunities available for those wishing to be a part of what is sure to be an inspirational few weeks in the summer! The London Ambassadors programme is recruiting volunteers to be 8000 stationed in key areas around the city including transport hubs, event venues and popular tourist spots. Ambassadors will provide information on where to go, what to see and how to get around London.

Volunteers ' Week 2012

Volunteers ' Week is an annual event which aims to raise awareness and celebrate the monumental contribution that volunteers make in the UK every year. As well As raising the profile of millions of regular contributors, Volunteers ' Week hopes to inspire a new generation to get involved andmake a difference. This year's events will take place between 1-7 June.

The internet is, as always, a valuable resource, with local forums and social networks also providing an easy way to connect with community-minded people in your area!
