Did you know- Tim Duncan,one of the world's most respected basketball players, was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Toward end of the 1990s, he was named Rookie of the Year.Later on, by 2004, he was superior to play for the United States Olympic basketball team, which won the bronze medal at the 28th Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. His selection was based on his international reputation.

Munich 1972

Did you know- The Islands had sent a team of 20 athletes, none of them were women, to the Summer Olympics in Munich (West Germany) in August and September 1972. The Olympic team competed in athletics (1), boxing (1), shooting (6), and navigation (12).

Peter Holmberg

Did you know- At the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, the memories of Brian Morrissette (who won a bronze medal in the Pan American Games in 1979) and Shelley Cramer seemed to inspire Peter Holmberg when he captured a silver medal for placing second in sailing's Finn class. Mr Holmberg became the first local athlete to win an Olympic medal. No other Olympic athlete in the United States Virgin Islands has ever matched Holmberg's success.

Did you know- The sport history of the Islands began in the mid-1960s when it made its international debut in the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Shelley Cramer

Did you know- Because of the United States boycott of the Olympic Games, the Virgin Islands refused to compete in the Moscow Olympics in 1980. As a result, Shelley Cramer, at that time the most important swimmer on the Islands, did not have the opening to partake in the Summer Games in the Ussr. The boycott was a protest against the Soviet Union's invasion of its neighbor Afghanistan. A year ago, while the Pan American Games, Miss Cramer accomplished fourth in the women's 100m butterfly.

Tricia Duncan

Did you know- In September 1988,Tricia Duncan, Tim Duncan's sister, accomplished 30th in the women's 200m backstroke, ahead of Wang Chi (Taiwan) and Sharon Pickering (Fiji), at the Xxiv Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. Furthermore, she came in 34th place in the 100m backstroke.

Winnipeg 1967

Did you know- The Virgin Islands -where aquatics, athletics and basketball are the celebrated sports-made its Pan American debut when it sent an Olympic team to the Pan American Games in Winnipeg (Canada) in July 1967.

Winter Olympics

Did you know- An eight-member team from the Virgin Islands participated in the Winter Olympics in the Norwegian city of Lillehammer in February 1994.
